"Nothing About Us WIthout Us"

The first meeting for the Greystanes Disability Services was held on 21 August 2024. The Disability Advisory Committee helps people with disabilities have a say in how things are done at Greystanes. The committee was formed to ensure that people with disability who are supported by Greystanes have a voice in how support is provided. The committee meets 3 to 4 times a year, and members get paid for attending.

What Happens in a Disability Advisory Committee Meeting:

At each meeting, we talk about three questions that are shared before the meeting. We take our time, and everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts. We want to make sure that everyone feels included, no matter their communication style or ability.

The committee agreed that it’s important for people with different disabilities and experiences to be part of these meetings. It doesn’t matter if someone can’t speak or understand everything – being in the room and included and involved in decisions is what counts.

Nothing About Us Without Us

This phrase means that no decisions should be made about people with disabilities without including them in the conversation. It’s about human rights and making sure everyone’s voice is heard.
